Colouring for awareness

Jessica Burns

At the beginning of February 2021 MARC (Mpumalanga Addiction Rehabilitation Centre) hosted a colouring competition at some schools around Piet Retief. In this way they tried to make the learners aware of the dangers of drugs and how it negatively affects the human body. They also tried to make learners aware of the positive impact of remaining drug free in their lives.

The 10 primary schools that were chosen were: Klein-vrystaat Primary School, Berbice Primary School, Madola Primary School, Mahamba Primary School, Diposi Primary School, Sibahle Primary School, Weeber Primary School, Holdensheim Primary School, Dumisani Primary School and Inkululeko Primary School. Ten learners per school (grade 5 – 6) were asked to participate.

On Thursday the 9th of June at 11:00 the nine winners that were chosen attended a function that was held at Tuscarora Spur. Each child received a certificate and enjoyed the morning with their teachers and some of the staff of MARC. The winners were from Kleinvrystaat Primary School, Berbice Primary School and Dumisani Primary School. Unfortunately, the group from Dumisani Primary School could not attend the event due to unforeseen circumstances.

Congratulations to Siphesihle Gamede, Nomathemba Malinga and Thandeka Ndabeni from Kleinvrystaat Primary School and Siphesihle Shabangu, Nokuphila Maphalala and Siyabonga Shongwe from Berbice Primary School.
