On Wednesday evening 27 October, invited guests from Mkhondo gathered at the new N2 Woodhill Mall to get the first look at the completed project.

The evening was a huge success and visitors walked around the premises to admire the beautiful architecture and exciting new stores. Delicious bite-sized meals and snacks were served by friendly waiters throughout the evening. Nobody went home hungry or thirsty.

The developers of the project, LYNX Real Estate and Mr Andries Gamede, spokesperson for the project, used this opportunity to thank everyone who contributed to the success of the mall and for helping things run smoothly and on schedule. They handed each person a small gift as a sign of their gratitude.

A highlight of the evening was when Mr Andries Gamede and Mr Dirk Nel of LYNX Real Estate inaugurated the building by smashing a bottle of champagne against one of the walls (breaking a bottle of champagne over the hull of a ship is considered tradition before launching a vessel).

The festivities continued on Thursday morning when the mall officially opened to the public. Some of the stores used this as an opportunity to reel in customers by hosting competitions. West Pack Lifestyle for instance, selected some lucky shoppers to participate in a 90-second “trolley dash” during which they could fill up their trolleys with as much as possible and then keep what they put in their carts.

Pick n Pay invited Buhlebemvelo Dancing Group to celebrate the opening of the new store. Their staff also sang a song for the occasion and they had a red carpet to welcome guests and make them feel special.

Stores gave their customers the opportunity to win shopping vouchers and most stores had opening specials on their merchandise.

On Saturday 30 October and Sunday 31 October, the fun continued with more family fun activities which included a mobile lottery, face painters stationed at the mall, roaming entertainers, mascots who engaged with shoppers, balloon handouts and exciting giveaways.

Crowds of people showed up over the weekend to show their support to the exciting new development in Piet Retief.

A year ago, the developers promised an excellent product and they definitely delivered on that promise. The mall elevates the status of Piet Retief and as it continues to expand, it is sure to get better and better.
