The Vooma Vaccination Weekend (Friday 1 October – Sunday 3 October) campaign was an inclusive national campaign that gave the opportunity to all adults in SA to get vaccinated free of charge and without an appointment. The target for this weekend was to vaccinate at least half a million people.
The campaign was highly supported in Mkhondo and Mayor Vusi Motha and his entourage also took part by visiting the vaccination sites and thanking those who were being inoculated.
On Saturday 2 October, the vaccination team visited Driefontein and on Sunday 3 October, the residents of Amsterdam were paid a visit.
It is said that approximately 350 000 people received the jab over the weekend and although the initial target was not achieved, it can still be considered to be successful.
