On Friday morning 20 August, various important role players of law and order in Mkhondo got together to take part in “Operation Basadi.”
The National Commissioner of the SAPS, General Riah Phiyega, is leading police officers in a nationwide “Operation Basadi;”- a crime combating operation focusing on priority crimes. The main operation started in Pretoria with all nine provinces following suit.
The participants included members of the Mkhondo SAPS, Mkhondo Local Municipality Traffic Department, the Fire and Rescue Unit and Mpumalanga Traffic Department officials.
Foot patrols were conducted in town and then Colonel Masango addressed community members at the Mkhondo Taxi Rank regarding gender based violence.
A roadblock was also conducted on the N2 road near the Dumbe intersection, in which many vehicles were searched for illicit goods. Fines were issued to motorists for the violation of the Road Traffic Act.
The Station Commander of the Mkhondo SAPS, Colonel Thela, would like to thank every person who participated in “Operation Basadi” and contributed to the success. It is good for members of the community to see that officials are actively involved in the safety of everybody in our town.
