Thieves stopped in their tracks

On Monday morning at approximately 07:05, WGI received a notification when the alarm of the old Kangra offices on the corner of Joubert – De Wet Street was activated.

Coenie Bekker arrived there only three minutes later and saw two men running away from the building with bags. Johan Pie-terse, security guard at a business in town, also saw the men and chased after them as they were running towards the Piet Retief Country Club. Unfortunately the two men could not be caught.

Mr Bekker went back to the offices to investigate. He climbed through the palisades that the criminals had cut open and heard a window breaking at the back of the building. He ran towards the sound and encountered a third suspect who had a knife with him.

Mr Bekker, armed with a firearm, ordered the man to drop his knife and get on the ground, to which the man complied. The robber was arrested and taken to the Mkhondo SAPS along with the power cables, steel and plugs that he was attempting to steal.

A job well done to Coenie and Johan  who acted quickly and removed another criminal from the streets. Thanks to the members of AfriForum who assisted with the arrest.
