On Monday 21 June at approximately 09:40, representatives from various departments visited Osloop to conduct a door-to-door visit with the residents, to create awareness about drug abuse and other important issues.
Councillor Ntuli welcomed the representatives from the SAPS, the Mkhondo Local Municipality, MARC, the Ward Committee, GRIP, the Department of Social Development and COGTA (Co-operative Governance and Traditional Affairs).
They handed out pamphlets with information on drug abuse, domestic violence and the importance of reporting abuse as well as firearm safety. The community members had the opportunity to engage with the representatives and ask questions.
On Tuesday 22 June the group of representatives also visited Ndlela – and Nqubeko Secondary School to talk about the same issues. They also included information about the dangers of sharing a syringe when using drugs.
The scholars were encouraged to take the necessary steps to prevent teenage pregnancy and how to avoid getting infected with HIV. The scholars were informed about what would happen to them if they succumb to a life of crime. They were given the number of the Community Service Centre (072 286 8875) to report crime and abuse.
Knowledge is power, thank you for talking to members of the community.
