On Monday 10 May SANRAL (South African National Roads Agency) started repairs on Church Street.
The construction kicked off between the corners of Church – and Theo Mocke Street and Church – and Hansen Street, which meant that the particular section of the road was closed to motorists on Tuesday 11 May. The closed section of Church Street forced motorists to use alternative routes, which caused congestion in Market Street and Kotze Street.
According to Irene Brussow, Ward 7 Councillor, the road will be repaired from end to end and will take a while to complete.
The repairs are long overdue and drivers are elated that improvements are finally being carried out. In order to maintain the repairs that are currently being done, regular upkeep by the Mkhondo Local Municipality’s Roads Department will be necessary and the community hopes that it will be the case.
Please stay patient whilst the construction is underway!
