With the tragic chain of events that occurred on 9 April on a farm in the Dirkiesdorp area, the community of eMkhondo and surrounding areas are deeply saddened.
People lost their lives, others got injured and some were arrested and are awaiting the judicial system to take its course. On Monday 12 April some community members of eMkhondo protested outside the Piet Retief Magistrate’s Court when four of the accused appeared in court. What really happened is not clear at this time.
Many different accounts are in circulation, and a person will only know what the truth is after the facts are presented and the court has made its final ruling. We believe that in the end those who were responsible will be held accountable for their actions. Condolences to the families who lost a loved one, we wish a speedy recovery to those who were injured and hospitalised and our thoughts are with the families of those who were arrested.
Once the court has made a decision it will be published in the Excelsior News. We serve the whole community and are not prepared to create hostility amongst the community of eMkhondo by favouring one side only, because at this stage the case is under investigation and all information is sub judice.
May justice prevail for all involved in this sad episode of a bad day in South Africa.
