The matrics of Piet Retief High School gathered excitedly on the school grounds on Thursday 8 April, in happy anticipation of the Annual Matric Cycling Tour.
They set out wearing their brand new matric shirts, and big smiles! Along the way, three water points for the cyclists, and two water points for the hikers were set up, where the learners could relax for a few minutes, enjoy a cold drink, and renew their energy with the donuts, chocolates and fruit that were provided for them by loving parents.
The cyclists conquered a 20 km route through the plantations, and laughter and jokes were exchanged between the hikers as they completed their 8 kilometres.
There was no better way to end the day than with a braai at the school’s swimming pool, where everyone could relax and enjoy a meal together. It was an amazing day and the matrics would like to thank every person who made this event possible. Thank you to all our sponsors: Gary Prentice from Specialised Security Services for our unique shirts, Thirsti for the water and power drinks, Pick n Pay for the buns and all the matric parents who sponsored food. We would also like to thank every teacher and parent who had helped to organise and make this day a success.
