Between the 31st of January and the 1st of February eMkhondo received approximately 150mm of rain.
Some residents of eMkhondo jumped in their cars on Sunday afternoon the 31st of January to look at the pools of water. Many people wanted to see the flooded roads first-hand. Approximately 90 mm of rain was measured in only a few hours and this is possibly the reason for some of the flooded roads and fields.
On Monday the 1st of February eMkhondo received another 60mm of rain, during the day. Therefore, no new areas were flooded on this day.
The ex-Eloise weather system has now dissipated, although heavy rains continue to be reported in multiple areas of the country. These areas should be monitored closely because many river basins are already above alert levels and the chance of flood-risks are high.
