Man jailed for murder


On 5 May 2016 between 06:00 and 08:00, a 31-year old man was shot and killed in the Welgekozen area. 

It was a difficult case to solve but, Warrant Officer Thabethe was assigned to investigate the incident. With assistance from the public, he managed to arrest two men for the murder.

The two suspects applied for bail but, it was only granted to one of them. On the 18th of May 2018, one of the perpetrators appeared in the Breyten High Court where he was found guilty of murder and sentenced to 39 years imprisonment.

The second offender appeared in the Breyten High Court on Wednesday 13 January 2021 and was also found guilty. He was sentenced to a total of 55 years imprisonment (30 years for murder, eight years for attempted robbery, 15 years for the possession of an unlicensed firearm and two years for the possession of illegal ammunition).
