The following information was supplied by the Mkhondo SAPS.
On the 12th of February 2017 at about 03:00, a suspect broke into the victim’s home in Sheepmoor. The victim screamed for assistance but, the suspect proceeded to raped her. He then took her cellular phone and R200-00 and walked away. On the same day, the suspect was arrested by Sergeant Nsibanyoni and charged with housebreaking, rape, robbery and for being in South Africa illegally. On 13 November 2020, the accused appeared in the Ermelo Regional Court and was found guilty on all charges. He was sentenced to 15-years imprisonment.
On 29 July 2018 at approximately 17:00, a 12-year old victim was raped in an uncompleted home in Sbetha. A case of rape was opened at the Mkhondo SAPS on the 30th and the suspect was arrested by Sergeant Zwane of the Mkhondo SAPS FCS Unit (Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Investigations) on the same day. On the 29th of November 2020, the accused was found guilty of rape by the Mkhondo Magistrate’s Court and sentenced to life imprisonment. He was also declared unfit to possess a firearm.
On the 8th of August 2019, a mentally handicapped 21-year old female was raped by a 43-year old male. According to the victim, this was not the first time that she had been raped by the suspect. A case was opened at the Mahamba SAPS and the lead investigator, Constable Mhlanga of the Mkhondo SAPS FCS Unit, arrested the man soon thereafter. On the 29th of October 2020, the alleged rapist was found guilty by the Piet Retief Magistrate’s Court and sentenced to ten years imprisonment. He was also declared unfit to possess a firearm.
A job well done to the arresting officers in these cases. Justice was served.
