On Monday 30 November the construction of the new Woodhill Mall, which will be situated next to the existing Woodhill Centre, commenced and it is an exciting project that will hold many benefits for the community of eMkhondo.
The new development was celebrated with a function on Saturday 28 November at Cypress Lodge. This event was attended by the spokesperson of the project, Mr Andries Gamede (former mayor of Mkhondo), as well as representatives of LYNX Real Estate who are the developers of the mall, the architect, the contractor, local chiefs and other important stakeholders.
During a presentation by Mr Dirk Nel, the director of LYNX Real Estate, it was explained that the new mall will cover about 10 000 m² and the approximate value of the investment will be R200-million. During the construction phase of the property, roughly 160 qualified individuals will be employed.
After completion, about 200 more people will be permanently employed, which will be advantageous for eMkhondo’s economy. The architect plans on featuring aspects of the surrounding plantations in the design of the mall. It will be open-plan and modern with touches of nature. A mall with world-class standards and will even include an entertainment zone for children.
According to Mr Nel, the first stage of the development will be completed in September of 2021 and the rest of the project will be finished off by April of 2022. Mr Gamede described the commencement of this project as “one of the greatest days in the history of eMkhondo.”
In order to consummate the building of the mall on time, only the most qualified individuals will be employed. Mr Gamede stated on several occasions that there will be no place for politics in this project. It is only a business and will be treated as such. The colour of your skin does not matter and only people with the appropriate credentials will be employed. He also said that whoever has a problem with that, will have no part in the project.
