On Wednesday 25 November the Emthunzini Victim Empowerment Centre held a march in Mabola (Dirkiesdorp) against Gender-Based Violence, in celebration of the 16 days of activism campaign.
210 members of the community took part in the initiative, including members of the SAPS, Departments of Social Development and Health, MARC, Isibindi, GRIP, community-based workers and a Ward Councillor.
It was a very successful event; the community received information about Gender-Based Violence and were urged to report any abuse immediately. Abusers should have to face the consequences of their behaviour and may not be allowed to get away with this negative behaviour.
As everybody knows, Gender-Based Violence is a big problem in South Africa and if people do not start speaking out against the perpetrators, the situation will never improve.
Thank you for organising this event and creating awareness about this very important issue.
