Preparing for Fire Season

On Thursday, 4 June members of the Mkhondo Local Municipality’s Forestry Unit ignited a controlled fire in the field between Retief – and Olivier Street.

The fire was ignited in order to remove all the dry grass from the field and by doing so, lowering the risk of the municipal plantations, which are adjoining to the field, going up in flames during this Fire Season.

Thick clouds of smoke filled the air and obstructed the sight of motorists. Fortunately, municipal employees were posted at the intersection of Retief – and Von Brandis Street to direct traffic and warn drivers to adjust their speed.

The MLM’s employees did an excellent job at controlling the situation.
