Colonel Sikhumbuzo Thela recently started his new position as Station Commander of the Mkhondo SAPS.
Colonel Thela has already been a part of the SAPS-team for almost 20 years and his years of experience makes him the perfect candidate for the position of Station Commander.
From 2010-2015 he has filled the position of Station Commander of Machadodorp SAPS and after that he was the acting VISPOL commander of the Ermelo SAPS. It’s not his first time working at the Mkhondo SAPS, in 2010 he formed a part of our station.
Colonel Thela believes that crime has no colour; it affects people of all walks of life. He also believes that if the community and the Mkhondo SAPS can work together, the crime rate in our beautiful town will decrease considerably.
He plans on involving businesses and religious institutions in the fight against crime, as these stakeholders have a major influence in the way that people act and think.
Some important issues that he plans on addressing:
- Foreigners without proper identification and paperwork, confirming that they are in Mkhondo legally, will be arrested.
- Tavern owners, who do not comply with their licence conditions, will be arrested, will receive fines and will possibly have to close the doors of their businesses.
- “Ladies of the night” will no longer be allowed to ope-rate in Mkhondo.
Colonel Thela is very operational and wants to get actively involved in the community and the fight against crime. He invites all members of the community to share any grievances, suggestions and tips regarding crime that they might have. His door is always open and whatever is discussed in his office, will be confidential.
Colonel Thela urges the community to stay safe during the festive season, and requests from them to please behave in a way that will not endanger them or those around them.
We are pleased to have someone in charge with this much enthusiasm regarding the combating of crime.
