The following information was provided by Brigadier Hlathi of the SAPS.
On Monday, 4 November members of the Mkhondo SAPS received information from individuals who are residents from the Kingdom of Eswatini regarding two people that were travelling to South Africa and who were suspected of the disappearance of a three year old boy.
The officers rushed to the Bothashoop Border and apprehended the suspects after they were identified by the individuals who reported them. Both were detained and interviewed but it was revealed that the woman in question carried no knowledge of the missing child and she was released.
With information gathered from the man in custody, detectives proceeded to search for a shallow grave in the Mangosuthu-area, in which the suspect claimed that the child was buried. The grave was found and the body exhumed on Wednesday, 6 November.
The 33-year old mother of the child was contacted immediately and when she identified her child, a case of murder was opened and registered.
The boy was found without both his hands. The suspect appeared in court on Wednesday, 13 November.
