Fire damages property and truck. On Sunday, 11 August, at about 01:30, a parked truck caught fire in Mark Street and then allegedly caused the shop in front of which it was parked, to also burn.
The driver of the truck was sleeping in the vehicle and was not aware of the fire. Truckers tried to notify him by honking their horns but, it was only when someone frantically knocked on the window of the truck that he became aware of the seriousness of the situation.
He quickly got out of the truck and tried to extinguish the flames without any success. The shop then also caught fire. The Mkhondo Fire Department, SAPS Officers and other role-players were called out to tend to the situation.
The estimated fire damages to the truck and store is valued at approximately R1 000 000-00.
Fortunately no one was injured and the incident is still under investigation.
