Rustplaas Dog Shelter fire

On Wednesday, 10 July 2019, the Rustplaas Dog Shelter lost a bulk of their dog food supply in a fire.

The fire not only destroyed the dog food, but also all of Rustplaas Dog Shelter freezers and containers which they use as storage for the dog food and some personal items. When the community learnt of this disastrous event, they immediately came together and started collecting dog food. Businesses and individuals in and around Mkhondo donated to the shelter. Some local businesses were selling dog food at cost price, so that it would be easier for individuals to buy and donate.

“The greatness of a community is most accurately measured by the compassionate actions of its members.” – Coretta Scott King

Mall@Mfula organized a dog food drop-off in the mall, and then later took the collected food to the shelter. Since the fire, they have received approximately 2.5 tons of dog food.

This shelter serves as a safe haven for more than 100 dogs and they cannot survive without food. If you feel the need to assist, please contact Louis Fourie on 083 308 0729.

Thank you to all members of the community who are supporting them in their time of hardship. Your donation, no matter how small, is greatly appreciated.
