Piet Retief Hospital Day

On Thursday, 25 April 2019, Piet Retief Hospital hosted a Piet Retief Hospital Day for the Mkhondo residents at the hospital grounds.

Mpumalanga Department of Health hosts such events to interact, listen and share information with the community through communicating about the various services that the hospital has to offer. Piet Retief Hospital CEO, Mr L.P. Lekhuleni delivered the purpose of the day.

“Today is actually a marketing day for the hospital, where we showcase all the services that the hospital offers as well as building a good and healthy relationship with the community,” the CEO stated. Dr I.O. Salawu, Medical Manager of Piet Retief Hospital, together with his team, addressed the community in detail regarding the various services offered.

The keynote address was formally delivered by Ms Z. Madonsela, in the absence of the Chief Director of the Gert Sibande Health District, Ms N.G. Hlatshwayo. Ms Madonsela encouraged the community to lead a healthy lifestyle, which means eating a nutritious diet, testing for cancer, HIV and TB and taking and completing medication.

She also briefly addressed the community about National Health Insurance (NHI). “NHI is soon to be implemented by the government to ensure that everyone gets equal access to quality health care, regardless of their race or wealth,” said Ms Madonsela.

She also addressed the issue of respect between government employees and the community. The day was a huge success filled with enlightening information and blissful entertainment, thank you to everyone who attended.
