Sod-turning for the “new” Klipwal Road

On Friday, 26 April, the Mpumalanga Premier Refilwe Mtshweni, conducted a sodturning ceremony and community meeting at the Klipwal open field next to the road to Klipwal.

The Klipwal function started at 10:00 with the National Anthem and a welcoming speech by Councillor Vusi Motha, the Executive Mayor of Mkhondo Local Municipality. Attendees were Mr G.P. Mashego (MEC for Public Works, Road and Transport), Cllr M.L. Yende (Chief Whip of Mkhondo Local Municipality), Cllr M.G. Chirwa (Executive Mayor of Gert Sibande District Municipality) and residents of the area. Various speeches were given during the day and the meeting ended with the sod-turning ceremony.

The 9 kilometre road rehabilitation is expected to create about 100 work opportunities for locals, at an approximate cost of R88 million. Residents of the community and farmers in the area are ecstatic regarding the new road as the road has been in a terrible condition for quite some time.

The Klipwal road is an excellent start in creating safer roads for members of the community. Residents and farmers of the Mkondo District sincerely hope that the 23 km road from Mkhondo to the Emahlathini Border (via Kleinvrystaat) is next on the list, since this road is barely usable.

Visitors to and from Swaziland rather make use of the alternative dirt road because of all the potholes on the tar road. For more information, kindly contact Mr Mokope Taiwe on 013 766 2288/076 875 6922 or Mxolisi Cyril Dlamini on 013 766 6553/076 301 4682.
