This event has become a feature on the calendar of GSDM. During the SODA 2017/2018 financial year, Chirwa announced an improved and a more inclusive Bursary Scheme. The scheme was to make sure that at least one (1) learner from each of the District’s seven (7) local municipalities receive educational support through a bursary.

As per the Executive Mayor’s announcement the new intake was represented by recipients from all municipalities in the District in various fields of study. In an effort to improve the Bursary scheme, the district introduced a couple of initiatives such as making it easier for the students to communicate with the District regarding the bursary.

This has allowed the district to better monitor and support the beneficiaries and in return has seen an enhanced performance by the bursary holders. These well-performing individuals were also recognized and honoured at the event. In her remarks during the event, Cllr Dumisile Nhlengethwa said to the new beneficiaries, “GSDM has given you a lifetime opportunity, use it wisely. C

ongratulations to all of you.” Bursary holders and relatives were beaming with joy as they witnessed the contribution Gert Sibande District Municipality is making in their lives.
