The 5th Mkhondo Festive Cup results

During December 2018, the 5th tournament of the Mkhondo Festive Cup formed part of the 6th edition of the Mkhondo Diski Festival and featured U/17 players as well as Promotion League Division teams in the past few years, with the addition of the U/13 division, which started on 7 December 2018.

The tournament was hosted at the Mandla Magudulela Stadium in eThandukhukanya and Mr Ntokozo Simelane, of the MLFA (Mkhondo Local Football Association) provided the following results: U/13 Division: Fourteen (14) clubs participated in the Mkhondo Festive Cup’s U/13 division and on Monday, 17 December, it was time for the final match between Flymingo United FC and Shining Stars FC.

Flymingo United FC beat Shining Stars FC with a huge score of 8-1 and they won a trophy that So What FC donated to the MLFA. The runners-up received a match ball. Well done boys! U/17 Division: Comet Riders FC came face-to-face with PR Barcelona FC and were victorious with a final score of 1-0 in the final – congratulations! The winning team received a new soccer kit, gold medals and match balls.

The runners-up (PR Barcelona FC) were rewarded with silver medals, match balls and training equipment while Citizen FC’s team, who came in third, got bronze medals and two match balls. The U/17’s division’s prizes were sponsored by the Sports Office of the Mkhondo Local Municipality – thank you for your generous donation!

Senior Division: The senior division showcased 24 teams who played in the Mkhondo Festive Cup, without any sponsors! From 9 – 17 December, teams battled it out for a spot in the final but in the end, defending champions, Citizen FC, managed to defend their title and won 2-0 against PR Barcelona FC.

The winning team received a trophy, gold medals and a whopping cash prize of R6 000-00. PR Barcelona FC’s team (2nd place) received silver medals, a match ball and R3 000-00 while Ajax Blue Birds FC (3rd place) were awarded with bronze medals, a match ball and R2 000-00.
