MARC (Mpumalanga Addiction Rehabilitation Centre) hosted an informative Open Day at the Youth Inpatient Centre situated just outside Piet Retief at Lottenburg Edufarm on the Wakkerstroom Road.
The event was aimed at informing visitors about the various services that MARC render such as pre-admissions, treatment and even aftercare of patients. The MC for the open day was Joshua Sibanyoni, teacher at the MARC Inpatient Division.
The programme started with Pastor Victor Vilakazi, spiritual counsellor at MARC, opening the event with Scripture reading and Prayer. Jeanné Stapelberg, manager at MARC Inpatient, welcomed everyone and then Katherine Mahodeo, manager at MARC Outpatient, gave a short history and background of MARC Centre.
“The first step to getting somewhere is to decide that you are not going to stay where you are.” – Unknown
Londiwe Mngomezulu, social worker at MARC Outpatient, explained how Outpatient services work and how clients are referred for Inpatient treatment. Jeanné Stapelberg followed with a explanation on screening and admission procedures at MARC Youth Inpatient Centre.
Thobile Msweli, social worker at MARC Inpatient, gave everyone an overview on the treatment rendered at the Inpatient Centre. Phineus Mokoka, community developer at MARC, stressed the importance of aftercare when clients are discharged and also summarized aftercare services. Sandisile Madonsela delivered an encouraging testimony about her drug history and sobriety after receiving treatment at MARC a year and a half ago.
MARC’s Youth Inpatient Service Users made sure that their delivery of a drama piece focusing on the rehabilitation process from their perspective and the recital of a poem, was entertaining and thoroughly enjoyed by all. MARC wishes to thank their sponsors for their loyal support and the staff members for all their hard work. You ensure a positive outcome!
