Leukemia survivor hosts dinner

On Saturday, 6 October, Colette Grobler, mother of Deanè, a AML Leukemia survivor, hosted a formal dinner event at Suikerbosskuur, Come dine with us.

Tickets were sold at R180-00 per person, which included a three course meal. A total of 68 tickets for adults and 13 for children were sold for this lovely evening. To make matters even more special, Deanè performed her duties as hostess perfectly as she welcomed and thanked all the guests for supporting the event. The dinner was also an opportunity to launch Rainbows & Smiles, who annually hosts fundraisers in the form of a Colour Bash.

Rainbows & Smiles strive to provide emotional, social and financial support to families and caregivers in need when a child (or children) is diagnosed with cancer. The organisation encourages childhood cancer advocacy and gold ribbon awareness to educate people in the hope of promoting early detection.

“When a child has cancer, whether they live, whether they die, we fight . . . We may be lost, we may be hurt, but we fight. Today, tomorrow, forever, we fight. So YOU may never say: when MY child had cancer.” A poem by Bonni, from Rainbows & Smiles

Rainbows & Smiles’ principles include creating hope, smiles and relief for families of children with cancer. During the evening, the guests were entertained by guest artists Eva Morgan and Kelvin Alston who sang and played guitar throughout the event. Colette would like to thank everyone who contributed towards the success of the evening.

Thank you to Fred Redinger who sponsored the artists and to Josef and Ericka Nienaber for the use of their venue. Please support this good cause at the Christmas Market and Colour Bash, which is planned for Saturday, 3 November.

An advertisement will be published in the Excelsior News to provide more information. If you would like to donate towards this worthy cause, kindly contact Colette Grobler on 072 785 6110.
