Ubuhlebuzile Secondary School to represent Gert Sibande at Provincials
Talented soccer players of Ubuhlebuzile Secondary School, situated in eThandukukhanya, attended the Kay Motsepe Schools Cup on Provincial level, to represent the Gert Sibande District, in Mbombela, on Saturday the 8th of September.
“Ubuhlebuzile”, meaning “the good times have arrived” is surely a spot-on statement as the U/19 players showed that they are willing and able to make their school proud.
Mkhondo has two other schools that have participated in the Provincial and National finals in previous years. Amandlelo Secondary School and Kwashuku Combined School managed to reach the same level of the competition twice since the inception of this tournament.
The team from Ubuhlebuzile Secondary School is led by Total Football United FC’s coach, Thokozani (TeeKay) Hlatshwayo, who himself is no stranger to provincial competitions as he was part of the winning team of the Schools Premier League Cup, when the under 15 girls of Imizamoyethu Primary School won in December 2016.
A win at Provincial level would have guaranteed the team from Ubuhlebuzile Secondary School a place at the finals, which will be hosted later this year.
Mr Ntokozo Simelane, of the MFA (Mkhondo Football Association) stated that they won 1-0 in the semifinals against Khula Secondary School but when coming face to face with the players of Phaphamani Secondary School in the finals, they lost 4-3 due to penalties.
However, Ubuhlebuzile’s team will still represent Mpumalanga at National level, which is a great achievement for this team. Congratulations and keep up with the hard work!
