Cultural Village goes up in flames

Empty, burned areas is all that is left of all the grass huts, situated in the Cultural Village of Mkhondo, after a fire broke out on Saturday afternoon, 25 August, at around 15:00.

Emergency Personnel from the Mkhondo Fire and Rescue Unit were called out to the scene but upon their arrival it was too late to extinguish the fire as it swept right through all the huts and destroyed them completely.

It was mentioned that some people residing in the area were burning rubbish and due to the strong winds on Saturday, the fire spread rapidly. The fire couldn’t be brought under control.
