Built it U/13 Knockout Cup 2018

On an icy cold and wet Saturday morning, 18 August, the Built it U/13 Knockout Cup for 2018 kicked off at the Masenkeni Stadium and spectacular soccer was showcased.

Shining Stars FC was determined from the start of the day and looked as if they were planning to win the Knockout Cup tournament. From as early as 07:00, various teams started to gather in the cold and excitement ran high.

In their first fixture, Shining Stars FC won 2-0 against Bayern Munich FC. They beat PR Barcelona FC in the quarter finals with a score of 5-0. PR Barcelona FC’s coach, Mr DJ Mshololo halted the match with only five minutes remaining in the second half.

“The boys were affected by the cold and were shaking throughout the match. They could feel the cold on their feet,” he explained. He went on to give credit to Shining Stars FC for playing an exceptional game, despite the dreadful weather.

Shining Stars FC was on a roll and they defeated PR Wanderers FC with 3-0 in the semi-finals, which set them up for a tough final against the popular team, Flymingo United FC, who are also the current Thandukukhanya Junior League leaders. During the final match, both teams gave it their all and even though the signs of exhaustion were evident, they still produced entertaining football.

The team from Shining Stars FC played with a winning spirit and at the end, won a phenomenal match, a first for this club from Welverdiend! In regulation time, the score was set on a 0 draw until the penalty shootout.

Their coach, Mr Zwane was ecstatic and applauded his team. His love for the game of football and the inspiration he is to the young players surely paid off in the end. Mr Mbongi Mbokazi, from Built it, conducted the prizegiving ceremony and he asked various officials to address the players and spectators.

Local manager from Ayob Built it, Mr Mohammed, thanked the boys for their team spirit and for playing well. Mr Nhlanhla Mkhonza, Mkhondo LFA’s chairperson, addressed the crowd and thanked Built it for hosting such a prestigious event and also for arranging the Amazulu FC’s chief scout, Mr Ayanda Mkhize, to be present on the day.

Mr Mkhize presented the winners and runners up with their prizes. The champions received individual trophies and a large champion’s trophy. Each player also received a bag and a brand new soccer kit. Congratulations – you deserved the win!

The runners up, the team from Flymingo United FC’s players each received a trophy and a bag. Well done, you played a great game! The highlight of the event was when Mr Mkhize announced the five players who were selected to attend trial games at Amazulu FC, in October.

Congratulations to the following rising stars: Loyiso “General” Ndlangamandla, Meluleki “Mabhuti” Masuku (both from Shining Stars FC), Ntando Mavuso (Flymingo United FC), Siyabonga Mbhele and Sibusiso Ntuli (both from Mara Mara FC). Mkhondo is very proud of you!
