This year marks a 100 years since the birth of Nelson Mandela and to honour his legacy on Mandela Day, 18 July 2018, TWK Agri employees across all its divisions volunteered at a school called Salem Combined School.
The school is situated in the Mkhondo area with 750 learners from Grade R to Grade 9. It is not easy to determine the needs of a school that has so little. Where does one start to relieve the hardship these kids face each day?
When you see the smiles and bright faces of children eager to learn, whatever their circumstances, that is when you realise the importance to appreciate what you have and the responsibility to help.
TWK invested time and sponsored much needed school stationery and sports equipment, renovated classroom doors, fixed and painted black boards. TWK also made a much needed soccer field, but perhaps the most sustainable is the vegetable garden.
Employees across TWK’s divisions visited the school on the day to uplift and spend time with the students of each grade by participating in various fun activities. Activities ranged from ball skills and netball matches to face paint, a photo booth and “Boeresport”.
The integration between employees and students was motivational and the day ended on a high note as TWK made sure every student went home with 1 kg of Shonalanga Braaipap.
This day will be remembered as a day in which everyone took 67 minutes to make a change towards a better South Africa. Thank you to each and every employee that made this day a success!
