Tekwani annual soccer tournament

For the past three years, Tekwani has been hosting a successful invitational soccer tournament and on Saturday, 11 August 2018, participating teams had yet another chance to play and ultimately be crowned as this year’s champions.

In 2016, the tournament was held at Stafford while 2017’s event took place at Wolvenkop. This year’s Tekwani gathering was organised again at Stafford and a total of 12 soccer teams participated.

The Tekwani soccer tournament, including refreshments and deliciously prepared boerewors rolls as well as all the prizes, was proudly sponsored by Tekwani. The following teams gave it their all: Tekwani Titans FC, Arsenal FC, Newington All Stars FC, Black Stars FC, Fast Foods FC, Assegaai FC, Magqobane FC, Tekwani FC, Home Sweepers FC, Mpuluzi Gunners FC, Temptations FC and Blue Birds FC.

During the day, all these teams battled it out on the field to try and get a place in the semi-finals but at the end, Tekwani Titans FC faced off against Temptations FC and won 1-0 and earned a place in the prestigious final.

At the end, the well-trained Tekwani Titans FC faced the skilled Mpuluzi Gunners FC and the final score came to an end on 1 each. Due to penalties, the Tekwani Titans FC won the game with 3-0 over the Mpuluzi Gunners FC.

Since the beginning of this tournament, the Tekwani Titans FC have been undefeated and they have also participated in the Gert Sibande District League, where they came third – well done! The winners were awarded with a beautiful trophy, prize money and medals whilst the runners up also received medals.

The day was thoroughly enjoyed by everyone who played and supported their favourite teams. Chiefs from the area, Induna Lushaba from Mpepeni and Induna Zondo from Mzwazini, and local council members also attended the games and found it to be very entertaining and uplifting.

Thank you to everyone at Tekwani for your initiative to promote sports within the communities of Mkhondo and going the extra mile to support these upcoming soccer stars. We are looking forward to next year’s tournament and the participating teams will be training hard to improve on their football skills for next year’s event.
