On 25 and 26 November 2017, the Piet Retief Sporting Club was invited to participate in an Ermelo Soccer Tournament.
There the following divisions were affiliated with the event: U/7, U/9, U/14 and seniors. The U/7’s performance was a jaw dropper, as this was the youngest division ever entered into the tournament in the history of Piet Retief. This was the first match they played after only a month’s training and they performed very well.
The U/9’s were a force to be reckoned with, winning three of their four games, thus proceeding to the finals against Ermelo. Piet Retief placed second in the division, after Ermelo scored a last minute goal. The U/14’s played a game of cat and mouse, as the opposition tried to catch up with the local team, but could not come close.
Two players sustained injuries, putting a strain on the team, but they still managed a third place. The seniors played like there was no tomorrow, winning all their games and facing Ermelo in the finals. Even though the locals outplayed Ermelo, they could not finish a few good chances.
The opposing team spent most of the game defending against Piet Retief, but scored one lucky goal, costing Piet Retief the game 1-0. The managers of PRSC would like to thank all the supporters and parents who travelled with them on these days. Part of their success goes to those who encouraged them to do the best they can.
They would like to thank all the players, as well, for their hard work – remember hard work always pays off. This was proved in the tournament. Well done to all. PRSC – Onward and Upwards
