Sewerage leaks into stream

Sewerage leaks into stream
Sewerage water runs directly into the stream, which in turn joins with the Assegaai River

During last week, a concerned business owner contacted the Excelsior News to say that sewerage leaks directly into the stream under a bridge in Brecher Street.

According to the informant, they have reported a blocked drain to the municipality on numerous occasions. About a month ago, the municipal workers attended to the drain but they dug a ditch and left it as is.

It seems now that the sewerage from the drain is flowing down the ditch, directly into a stream which in turn, runs to the Assegaai River. The stench is unbearable and the problem seems to persist. How is it possible to dig a hole and hope for the blocked sewerage to disappear?

The matter was reported to the Mkhondo Local Municipality on Monday, 30 October and feedback is currently awaited.
