On Monday, 13 November, members from the ANC Women’s League held a protest in front of the Piet Retief Court to show their support towards a rape victim.

According to Mrs Ngelosi Ndlovu, from the ANC Women’s League, the victim was raped in 2014 by her employer. They feel that the case is not moving forward and that justice is not being served. Furthermore, Mrs Ndlovu told the Excelsior News that they are creating awareness for all victims of abuse against women through this protest as they strongly feel that the justice system is failing the women of South Africa.

The court case was set for Monday, 13 November, but at time of going to print, more information pertaining to the outcome was not available. The Communications Department of the local SAPS confirmed that the case has been postponed to the 13th of February 2018, when the accused’s trial will begin at the Piet Retief Court. A follow-up article will be published when the relevant information is made available to the Excelsior News.
