On Friday, 13 October, the grade R’s were taken on an Open day tour through the Piet Retief Primary School grounds, while their parents were welcomed by personnel in the school hall.

Good luck to every child, we hope that you will enjoy the big school ‘n skattejag gehou op die skoolgronde. Even though the children do not yet know in which class they will be, they were shown what the grade 1 classes look like.

They were also introduced to the playground they will get to enjoy next year. For these children, Friday the thirteenth was definitely not an unlucky day!

Even when they were asked to walk quietly, the excitement of going to the “big school” next year was too much to contain. The children skipped everywhere they went and laughed jubilantly.

Dr Jackie Pretorius, one of the speakers, spoke to the parents about bullying. She also pointed out the differences between conflict and bullying in her speech.
