Easter Celebrations at Salem Lutheran Church. Easter weekend was celebrated at Salem Lutheran Church with services held on Friday, 14 April, as well as Sunday, 16 April.
On Friday, seven pastors from the Lutheran Church of South Africa (LCSA) each received one of the seven sayings of Jesus on the cross to preach on for Good Friday. Rev. M. Zikhali preached on the first word, Forgiveness, based on Luke 23:34, “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they do.” Second, Rev. B. Ngobese based his preaching on the second word, Salvation.
This is based on Luke 23:43, “Truly, I say to you, today you will be with me in paradise.” The third word, Relationships, was discussed by Rev. J. Mntambo, who preached on John 19:26-27, “Woman, behold your son. Son, behold your mother.”
Abandonment, the fourth word, was discussed by Rev. T Hadebe, focusing on Mark 15:34, “Eloi, Eloi lama sabachthani?”, or “My God, My God, why have you forsaken me?” Rev. N. Khumalo focused on John 19:28, “I thirst” as he discussed the fifth word, Distress. Rev. J.B. Mathebula discussed the sixth word, Triumph, as he based his preaching on John 19:30, “It it finished.”
The seventh and final word, Reunion, was discussed by Rev. N. Biyela as he referred to Luke 23:46, “Father, into your hands I commend my spirit.” The events on Sunday started as the procession of the pastors took place at 08:00. The service was led by Rev. N. Biyela as the Resurrection of Jesus was celebrated by the community.
