Accident Report

Accident Report. A few accidents occurred over the weekend with no deaths recorded and only minor injuries sustained.

On Friday, the 5th of May, two heavy motor vehicles were heading in opposite directions on the N2. One was travelling towards Pongola while the other was on route to Piet Retief. A vehicle (unknown) tried to squeeze in between the two heavy motor vehicles to try and pass them when the one driver of the heavy motor vehicle lost control whilst attempting to prevent a serious accident from happening and ended up in a ditch with mud.

Fortunately, there were no injuries. Also on the 5th of May, two vehicles collided on the corner of Theo Mocke – and Premier Street (the last section of Church Street when leaving the town area). According to the driver of the Diatshu, he was travelling in Theo Mocke Street when he skipped the stop street and collided with an Opel Corsa. No injuries occurred during this accident.

On Saturday, the 6th of May, a foreign citizen lost control of his vehicle whilst travelling on the Wakkerstroom road due to a burst tyre on the left back side of the vehicle. The man was heading towards Piet Retief when the tyre burst and he rolled the vehicle. His parcels were scattered everywhere and he was taken to the hospital with a broken arm. On Sunday, the 7th of May, the Emergency Service personnel were called out to an accident on the Wakkerstroom road.

The driver of an Opel Chevrolet bakkie collided into an electrical pole which caused Piet Retief to be without electricity for some time. It seems that the driver had an epileptic attack and lost control over his vehicle. He was rushed to the hospital but did not sustain any serious injuries.
