Alvin Bronkhorst took part in the SA National Road and Time Trial Cycling Championships that was held in Wellington from the 7th to the 12th of February 2017.
Alvin’s first event was a 14.9 km Individual Time Trial. He completed the race in 22:05 min, thus achieving an average speed of 39.1 km/h. The time secured him a podium position (3rd) in the SA National TT Championships for boys U/17, only 21 seconds behind the first rider with only 6 seconds adrift from the second position.
Alvin also took part in the 77.9 km road race where 42 riders entered for the race. As expected, the race was fast with a lot of aggressive “attacks” during the race. The race ended with a bunch (25 riders remaining) sprinting for the finish line. With limited space available it would be important to have an open and correct line to the finish.
Alvin achieved a 14th place overall with only 4 seconds between him and the first position. Rudi du Randt came in 6th place in the Time Trial and 18th in the Road Race (age category 40-44). Johan Prinsloo came in 9th place in the Road Race (age category 60-64). Well done with this great achievement!
