On Friday, 3 March 2017, members of TTN, Department of Health, Chabahiva (Church and Business against HIV/AIDS Germany), the German Embassy and local business sponsors (Mondi, Mpact, TWK, Vumbuka and Vuka Timbers) gathered at the Moolman Church grounds for TTN’s 10 Year Birthday Celebration and the launch of our fifth mobile clinic.
The mobile clinics are proving to be one of the most effective means of bringing Primary Health Care to communities in remote areas that are unable to visit established clinics. TTN currently has four mobile clinics in action – these clinics treat patients, educate the communities on healthcare, conduct HIV/ Aids tests and dispense medicine to children, adults and the elderly (once a month), at approxi- mately 150 sites all over the Mkhondo district, including Panbult, Iswepe, Sheepmore, Moolman, Commondale, Paulpietersburg, nTombe, Lüneburg, Braunschweig, the Southern Swaziland border areas and others.
Our ‘Imbizo’ was not only to celebrate 10 years of working in these areas, but to launch our Fifth Mobile Clinic. THANK YOU to our German Sponsors, Nord Rhein Westfalen Government – they financed the Fifth mobile clinic! Their generosity and support will enable TTN to extend our partnership with the Department of Health even further, as Mobile 5 will be servicing Amsterdam and an area of approximately 24km in diameter surrounding the town.
We also have to acknowledge the hard work of our Peer Educators, our ‘ground support’ in the field. These ladies (from many of the communities we work in) assist TTN and the Department of Health in the field – they train, educate, distribute health awareness information and teach community members about healthcare and HIV/Aids.
Thank you ladies for your hard work and wonderful performances in the choir competition – congratulations to the Piet Retief Peer Educators who walked away with the trophy for best choir! What a celebration, what a day! To everyone who came to celebrate with us, and to those people who support this initiative, we say a heartfelt thank you to you as well. It is truly unbelievable to see a collaboration of this nature in action between Church, Government, Business and the Communities themselves.
