Ajax Residents Want Answers

The community of Ajax, situated in Ward 8 of Mkhondo Municipality, had a march on Wednesday, the 1st of February to deliver a memorandum to Mr. S. Mbede, the Deputy Director of the Department of Rural Development and Land Reform.

According to the memorandum, Ajax is located on privately owned land and the memorandum is to purchase portion 27 of the farm Welgekozen 514 IT on their behalf. Other issues the community mentioned in their memorandum included the lack of crèche facilities, the need of subsidized housing, absence of schools, no multipurpose centre/community hall or clinic facilities.

Citizens from Ajax have been unsuccessful on two occasions in purchasing land. The community of Ajax insist on knowing why the department do not want to purchase portion 27 of the farm Welgekozen 514 IT for them because an evaluation was done and also approved.

Ajax is demanding answers from the Department of Rural Development and Land Reform and the citizens have given the department seven working days to respond to their memorandum. By the time of going to press, no further information was available. Upon receipt of more information regarding the matter, a followup article will be published in the Excelsior News.
