After all maintenance was completed, the course was yet again open for play last week. On Wednesday, 12 October, the weekly IPS competition was played.
Wimpie Bruwer took first place with 22 points, followed by Wynand Dryer in second with 20 points and Edmund Böhmer in third with 19 points. Wimpie also managed a two club on the day. On Saturday, 15 October, the annual Amsterdam Primary School Golf Day was held at the Piet Retief Country Club.
The day started off with sunny weather, but the golfers were chased off the course for a while, due to a thunderstorm. This day is always very popular, as the format is a four ball alliance with a scramble drive, making it possible for beginners to also join in and have some fun. Everyone truly enjoyed the day, even though the weather was not perfect.
The results for the day were: 1st – A. Masina, J. Dlamini, W. Nkosi and E. Thwala 2nd – L. Vilakazi, M. Hlatswayo and L. Mthethwa 3rd – R. Wass, V. Wass, J. Cronje and S. Cambell Congratulations to all the winners and everyone who participated. Mossie Mostert (Governing Body Chairman) would like to thank all the sponsors of the day, Piet Retief Golf Club for the successful golf day, the Governing Body, as well as the staff from Amsterdam Primary School for their hard work.
The next events are: Maranatha School Golf Day (5 November) and the Monthly Mug competition (12 November). Players are also reminded to enter their scores within 72 hours of playing a round. Since the 1st of August, many golfers have been penalised for not doing so.
