Drivers not Slowing Down at Pedestrian Crossing

The aim of a pedestrian crossing is to ensure the safety of pedestrians crossing the street, but what if drivers don’t obey these traffic rules?

On the N2, when heading to Pongola, there is a pedestrian crossing located just after the hospital. The crossing was placed there, mostly to ensure the safety of school pupils crossing this busy road, with other pedestrians using it as well. However, it seems like drivers are just ignoring this crossing, simply speeding over without slowing down or even stopping when there are pedestrians waiting to cross the road.

Aren’t drivers supposed to stop and wait for these pedestrians to cross, not the other way around? Fortunately, there have been no reports of any incidents of late where there have been accidents involving pedestrians.
