Accident Report – Herewith a report on all accidents (in and around Piet Retief) so far in October. One person sustained minor injuries, one person major injuries and two people passed away.
On Saturday, 1 October, at about 19:40, the driver of a vehicle was heading towards Piet Retief on the Paulpietersburg road, when the driver allegedly overtook a vehicle, with another vehicle coming from the opposite direction. The driver then tried to swerve out and lost control, causing the vehicle to go off the road and roll. One person sustained minor injuries, one person major injuries and two people passed away.
Again,on 1 October, at about 20:00, the driver of a L.D.V. was heading towards the Paulpietersburg road from the Luneburg road, when the driver apparently tried to dodge cattle that were in the road and lost control of the vehicle, causing it to go off the road and end up in the bushes.
Four people sustained minor injuries, whilst one person sadly passed away. On Sunday, 2 October, about 16:30, a truck was heading towards Ermelo, while an Audi was heading towards Piet Retief. The driver of the Audi apparently overtook a vehicle, when the driver of the truck noticed it, he tried to swerve out for the Audi, but it was too late and the two collided head on.
One person sustained minor injuries, one person major injuries and unfortunately one person passed way. On Tuesday, 4 October, at 14:30, a vehicle was heading into town from Ermelo, when the driver of a second vehicle allegedly turned into the Ermelo road from Sasol and the two then collided.
Two people sustained minor injuries. On Sunday, 9 October, at about 13:30, the driver of a vehicle was heading towards Piet Retief from Paulpieterburg, when the driver apparently lost control of the vehicle at the Moolman turn-off, after passing over a bumpy section of road. Luckily no one in the vehicle sustained any injuries. When travelling from Paulpietersburg to Piet Retief, there are two bumps just before the Moolman turn-off.
When passing over these bumps it becomes quite tricky to control the vehicle and this could lead to more accidents at this spot or even loss of lives. If the department is unaware of these humps, we hope that they have noticed it now and do something about it.
