2016 Women’s Month Celebration

With August being women’s month, Mkhondo Local Municipality’s female employees hosted an event to honour and celebrate women and their diversity.

Three sessions were held on Wednesday, the 24th of August. During the first session sanitary towels were donated to school girls from the Klein Vrystaat Primary school and Mehlwemamba Primary school. The team was led by Cllr Thembi Khumalo who handed over the donations. Klein Vrystaat Primary’s school principal, Mrs Khanye, was thankful for being a beneficiary of this initiative to uplift young girls from rural areas.

The second session was a formal event held at the Town Hall, and opened by singing the National Anthem. Welcoming remarks and the purpose of the event were explained by Buyi Nxumalo and an opening prayer was done by Pastor Monametsi. The ladies were then entertained with music and local excellent dancers and performers.

Ms Simpiwe Zulu, from the Department of Social Development, spoke to the ladies about empowering one another while living life as a woman. Health issues were discussed by Ms Nondumiso Mavimbela and Ms Thandi Maluka. Business related issues were then discussed by Thobi Mkhize, from Mondi. Afterwards, keynotes of the event were explained by the Speaker, the Hon. Cllr Ngelosi Ndhlovu. Cllr Khumalo concluded the session with a note of appreciation and thanksgiving.

The third session, hosted by Nokuthula Nkosi and Mxolisi Vilakazi, was about taking care of your body and promoting female well-being through aerobics. The ladies surerly had a good workout! Well-prepared, tasty refreshments and drinks for all the guest to enjoy, rounded off the splendid day. Yes, these ladies are proudly women!
