Uzwelo Benifits From Mandela Day – Monday, the 18th of July, marked the birthday of the late president, Nelson Mandela.

In aid of celebrating Madiba’s life, individuals were challenged to take 67 minutes of their time to contribute to charitable work in the community. Numerous companies paid a visit to Uzwelo Child and Youth Centre on Monday to spend 67 minutes of their time, blessing the children’s home with a variety of goods.

Companies such as Sappi donated T-shirts and groceries. They also provided the children with sweets and chips. TWK Agri donated each child with a pair of new school shoes and the Department of Home Affairs arrived there with bags and bags of groceries as well. Debonairs sponsored dinner and Ihlati Logging cc donated stationery sets and sweets. On the 15th of July, some nurses from the Retired Nurses Forum came to visit Uzwelo as devotion of their 67 minutes for Mandela Day.

They brought the children fresh fruit and spent quality time with them. In return, some of the staff members from Uzwelo devoted their 67 minutes by serving a warm, cooked meal to the less fortunate families residing at the rubbish dump. The initiative was held on Friday, the 15th of July. They managed to feed an estimate of almost 100 people. Uzwelo’s staff members and children wish to thank each company and person involved in the 67 minutes for Mandela Day initiative and for all the donations received.

You have truly blessed the children’s home! Well done to each member from the community for doing their part on the 18th of July. Spending only a small amount of time with people in need, might make the world’s difference in someone’s life!
