Siphokazi Mthethwa, HPR’s “Braveheart

After the gruelling exams, the July holidays are always pleasant for students but for Siphokazi Mthethwa, however, the holiday brought the devastating news that she has stage four bone cancer.

What she and her parents had presumed to be a sporting injury, was in fact something far more serious. Siphokazi, a Gr 12 learner, prefect and hostel head girl at Piet Retief High School, has touched the hearts of all who know and admire her for her high morals and rocksolid character. Since starting Gr 8 at the Piet Retief High School, she has never faltered in her conduct and she has been an admirable role model to her fellow students.

Article by PRHS Even in the midst of this crisis, she has remained determined that she will be finishing her Gr 12 next year. She will be undergoing a nine-week chemotherapy treatment programme, with possible surgery afterwards, followed by another nine-week programme. The educators and learners of Piet Retief High School are committed to supporting Siphokazi and her family with fundraising efforts, already underway.

Our hearts and prayers go to our shining “Braveheart” and her family. If you would like to contribute toward her medical expenses, please contact the finance office at Piet Retief High School on 017 826 0534.
