A group of 35 prisoners participated in a training session for hydrophonic systems in gardening on Friday, the 12th of August.
The training was organised by the head of the Correctional Centre, Mr. T.S. Hlabisa and the day was sponsored by Mondi’s Mobile Sience Laboratory together with the Department of The group of participants who had the opportunity to learn how a hydrophonic system works Science and Technology.
Hydrophonics is a subset of hydroculture and is a method of growing plants using mineral nutrient solutions, in water, without soil. Terrestrial plants may be grown with their roots in the mineral solution only, or in an inert medium, such as perlite or gravel. The participants had the opportunity to learn how to make use of a hydrophonic system and the benefits thereof.
The Department of Correctional Services and inmates wish to thank the staff members from Mondi’s Mobile Science Laboratory and the Department of Science and Technology for the training they provided and for affording them the opportunity to participate in the practical training as well.
