On Monday, 15 August, members from E-PHS Security gathered in front of the municipal buildings.
According to one of the workers, they decided to strike due to the fact that they have not yet received any provident fund or UIF since 2012. They have also not received any transport or uniforms. To top it all, the workers have, according to them, yet to receive their salaries for the month that has passed.
The strike was done peacefully and all that the members wanted was to be compensated for their work that has been done. According to Mr Wandile Mkonyane (General Manager for Community Services), E-PHS Security is a service provider that was hired by Mkhondo Municipality.
The E-PHS Security members did visit him and according to Mr Wandile, the issue was mainly about the provident fund being paid to ABSA instead of the union (selected by the E-PHS Security members) and their uniforms that are worn out and not replaced. Mr Wandile Mkonyane is currently unaware of the issue regarding the salaries, but action is being taken against E-PHS Security regarding the matter and will be resolved as soon as possible.
