Amsterdam Crime Report – On Tuesday, 21 June 2016, the High Court, sitting in Ermelo, convicted a 42-year old male for rape, murder and theft.
On Saturday, 7 February 2015, the 42-year old male from Swaziland visited the house of the deceased, who was his half-sister. The two of them then headed to another house, where they got a lift to Nerston via Amsterdam road. They then followed a farm road where the accused took the victim into the bush, where he raped her and set her on fire. The victim got away and managed to find a patrolling police vehicle, the police officers then took her to hospital.
She was transferred to the Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital, where she passed away on 19 February 2015, due to burn sepsis. On 21 June 2016, the High Court, sitting in Ermelo, sentenced Themba Memeza Gayigayi Manana to imprisonment on the following counts: rape (25 years), murder (life) and theft (5 years).
