Road Running News - Wake up to Wakkerstroom

Four adventurous Assegaai runners took part in the Wakkerstroom Mountain Challenge on 18 June.

Over distances of 5, 10 and 21.1 kilometres some 135 runners and walkers accepted and, in fact, enjoyed the challenge of a chilly and windy winter’s morning and the somewhat mountainous route out and back on the Wakkerstroom- Amersfoort gravel road. The beautiful scenery and typical rural hospitality also added to an experience well worth remembering and surely to be repeated.

The “man of the match” turned out to be our very own Bonginkosi Mavuso who won the half marathon (21.1km) in a very good time of 01:20:13. Well done! Perhaps the Wakkerstroom Mountain Challenge will mark the awakening of a gold medal rich running career.
