The Mkhondo Youth Advocacy was formed in February 2015 as the “brain child” of its founder Mr Mukuvhi Fhatuwani.
The MYA was established for the youth of Mkhondo to help them with personalized counselling and to support and guide them towards the correct career paths. Mr M. Fhatuwani saw the gap that needed to be filled and recruited youth, mostly from Phola Park Alliance Church to work together in making Mkhondo a better place. The MYA is aiming to open an educational as well as career guidance sector in the next two years. They plan to offer services to assist in achieving their educational and career goals.
Within the next five years the MYA also aims to open a crisis and personal counselling sector, as well as an arts and culture sector. The crisis centre is to focus on people and/or families that have to acknowledge and overcome the feelings of hopelessness and despair. The arts sector is to develop innovative and creative minds to help compete in the 21st century workplace. Currently the MYA has started the first project to battle against teenage pregnancy and HIV/Aids in the community of Mkhondo. The project is in the form of a road show, themed Mkhondo Raise. They are aiming to create an open and constructive dialogue about teenage pregnancy and the HIV crisis in our society.
The idea came after the MYA found that there are extremely high ratings of HIV and teenage pregnancies in the Mkhondo area. The “MYA” doesn’t want to preach to the youth but instead wants them to make up their own minds by appealing to their own sense of responsibility. Currently the project is being funded by its founder and associates, with some help from Pastor Mkhwanazi from The Phola Park Alliance church. The MYA is asking for assistance from the youth and any person willing to do so, may join. For more information contact Mr M Fhatuwani on 083 379 5857.
